This patterns are designed as part of a supportive and engaging hospital environment for the Thistle Ward at the Newham University Hospital which is an older adults ward with a high proportion of dementia patients that tend to be from the local area.

I took into consideration the fact that the majority of the patients in the hospital were from different countries such as UK, Caribbean Islands and Various parts of Asia. I was also expired by the Biophilia hypothesis which suggests that there is an instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems and the use of colours which can affect our mental condition, mood,perception of time, volume, shape, space and perspective. As a result I created two patterns that can be used with different background colours as a wall paper.
